The magnificence of the Lukas Enembe Stadium ahead of the XX Papua 2021 PON
The Papua Bangkit Stadium, or which is now renamed Lukas Enembe Stadium, was built in 2017. The stadium, which is located in Jayapura Regency, has been completed since 2019. The location of this stadium is on the side of the road between Sentani and Jayapura. This stadium has a capacity of around 40,000 spectators using single seats with a style similar to the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.
The Papuan government has poured funds of up to Rp 1.3 trillion to build the Lukas Enembe Stadium. This stadium is of international standard and according to FIFA standards. Apart from functioning as a football match venue, this stadium is also equipped with an athletic track. It is clear that this stadium is in the public spotlight, because it is the grandest stadium in Indonesia.
The Lukas Enembe Stadium has a total area of 13.7 hectares (ha) with the main stadium area of 71,697 square meters. The outer stadium is decorated with Papuan carved ornaments, adding to the thickness of the easternmost province in Indonesia itself. This stadium is also the main venue for the XX 2021 National Sports Week (PON) event. Yes, this is the first time for Papua to host an event as big as PON.
Initially, XX PON will be held in October 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, XX PON has been postponed to 2021, to be precise on October 2-15. According to information, the preparations to welcome PON XX Papua have almost reached 100%. Of course, by following strict health procedures, considering that currently Indonesia is still hit by a pandemic.
The establishment of the Lukas Enembe Stadium is certainly a matter of pride for the Papuan people. They can prove that Papua can also be the host and provide very adequate facilities. Moreover, the Lukas Enembe Stadium is predicted to resemble the largest stadium in Indonesia, the Bung Karno Main Stadium.
