BTM: Jayapura City Ready to Succeed XX PON

The chairman of the Jayapura City PON Sub-PB who is also the Mayor of Jayapura, Benhur Tomi Mano (BTM) explained the readiness of the Jayapura City cluster for 100 days towards the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) in 2021, Thursday (24/6/2021) night.

"In Jayapura City, there are 16 venues that were built using the State Budget (APBN), Papua Province Regional Budget (APBD) and Jayapura City APBD, and in the Jayapura City cluster, 16 sports and 22 disciplines will be competed," he explained. BTM.

The venues, said BTM, have been inspected by the Supervisory and Steering Committee (Panwasrah) and the Central KONI Delegate Team. Together with the Jayapura City PON Sub-PB committee, the Central KONI has come down directly to see the readiness of the venue.

BTM said that PON was an achievement event, so he asked the committee and all residents of Jayapura City to be good hosts to welcome the sports ambassadors who would come to Jayapura City.

The next program in order to make PON a success in Papua, said BTM, met with the Chairman of the Indigenous Community Institution (LMA), Ondoafi, associations and religious leaders in the Jayapura City area.

"We also involve small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Jayapura City so that there is economic value for the people of Jayapura City," said BTM.

Besides PON, Jayapura City is also preparing for the XVI National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) which will take place from 2-15 November 2021.

“There are 6 Peparnas sports that will be competed in Jayapura City. We are ready to make PON and Peparnas a success, because Jayapura City is the capital of Papua Province, and the most sports are in this city," said BTM.

Another readiness, continued BTM, is to hold a Covid-19 Vaccine Festival. The people of Jayapura City, especially those who live around the PON venue, will be vaccinated including souvenir traders so that they can watch the PON live in Jayapura City.

BTM asked the residents of Jayapura City to make it viral throughout Indonesia that Papua is safe, Papua is peaceful, and Papua is ready to hold the XX PON in Papua.

"Let's echo this that Papua with the tagline "Torang Can", Papua can and is ready to hold the XX PON on October 2-15," said BTM.

On that occasion, SUB PB PON Jayapura City launched PON merchandise in the form of noken and hats with cassowary feather crowns as well as Nanwani branded bottled drinking water produced by PDAM Jayapura.

"We will wear nokens and hats to all contingents who come to Jayapura City. Meanwhile, Nanwani AMDK, I hope it will become mineral drinking water for PON participants in Jayapura City," said BTM.

“Nanwani's AMDK is being tested in the laboratory and is waiting for a permit for us to consume. Nanwani means water of life," he explained.
