The governor asks his supporters not to demonstrate

The Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe asked his supporters not to be provoked and not to demonstrate to protest the appointment of the Regional Secretary of the Papua Province, Dance Yulian Flassy as the Daily Executive of the Governor of Papua. The request was stated by the spokesman for the Governor of Papua, Muhammad Rifai Darus through his written press statement on Saturday (26/6/2021).

“The Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, called for the Papuan people not to be provoked by the variety of information that flooded social media traffic. Do not give space to a handful of groups that have other interests, especially those who want to separate Papua from the Republic of Indonesia to ride this situation. The governor doesn't want the people to be victims," said Rifai's written press statement.

A number of community groups in Papua have expressed their protests and objections to the Ministry of Home Affairs' move to appoint the Regional Secretary of the Papua Province, Dance Yulian Flassy as the Daily Executive of the Governor of Papua. On Friday (25/6/2021), a group of people came to the Papua Governor's Office in Jayapura, and sealed Flassy's office. A number of other groups are rallying the masses to demonstrate on Monday (28/6/2021).

Rifai stated that Lukas Enembe wanted to leave a good impression on the community and his successors who would lead the Papua Provincial Government. Therefore, Enembe does not want division in society.

According to Rifai, Enembe had reported allegations of maladministration in the appointment of Dance Yulian Flassy as the Daily Executive of the Governor of Papua to President Joko Widodo. “Mr. Lukas Enembe has responded quickly procedurally by submitting a written report directly to the President of the Republic of Indonesia. The Governor of Papua believes that President Joko Widodo is known as a figure who understands the conscience of the Papuan people. With his wisdom, of course, it is hoped that the President will be able to make wise decisions according to the hopes and desires of the Papuan people," Rifai wrote.

Rifai also conveyed the message of the Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe who invited all parties to unite to prepare Papua to host the National Sports Week or PON XX Papua and the National Paralympic Week or Pepernas XVI Papua.

"Don't give room to anyone who tries to interfere with our commitment and togetherness in creating a safe and peaceful Papua as a prerequisite for successful development, especially the success of PON XX and Peparnas XVI 2021 in Papua," Rifai wrote.
