The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) issued an operational permit for the establishment of the Okmin Papua University through a Ministerial Decree Number 344/E/O/2021.

Plt. The Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Nizam in a press release received by Antara from the Bureau of Cooperation and Public Relations of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Technology, explained that the permit to establish the University of Okmin Papua in the Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua Province, was issued to coincide with the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia to 76 years.

"Now the University, which was initiated by the Okmin Papua Education Foundation, has operated to advance Papuan human resources," he said

According to him, the presence of universities not only develops human resources, but also builds the economy, social welfare and advances the Papuan people, especially the Bintang Mountains Regency and the surrounding area.

“I hope that Okmin University friends will not only develop human resources, but also develop community economic resources. The campus must also be a spring for development in the region," said Nizam.

He reminded Okmin University lecturers to help build community service, research and focus on developing potential in the region.

He also invited the lecturers to interpret the establishment of this University as an important historical step for the people in the Bintang Mountains and to become a new page for the progress of Papua in the future.

"Gotong royong between education policy makers is very important, such as existing universities, local governments, communities, and industry, so that they can move forward together in developing the land of Papua," said Director General Nizam.

The regent of the Bintang Mountains, Spei Yan Bidana, who gave a separate statement, said that Papua's dreams and hopes would come true with the inclusion of higher education in Papua.

“There is nothing but education. Education is a window to the world, how people open doors through windows to find out about themselves, thus education is a shortcut key in Papua and in Indonesia to educate all nations," he said.

The Regent of Spei stated that the presence of the University of Okmin Papua was a gift in the context of the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia for Papua and could be a milestone in the progress of education in the region.

He hopes that students studying at the Okmin University in Papua will someday become national leaders for the progress of the nation.
