TNI-Polri Claim to Control KKB Headquarters in Puncak Papua

The Nemangkawi Task Force (Satgas) claims to have succeeded in taking control of a headquarters of the armed criminal group (KKB) led by Goliat Tabuni in the Puncak area, Papua on Monday (16/8).

TNI-Polri officers took control of the headquarters after carrying out raids at around 15.40 WIT. In this incident, the police claimed to have shot a KKB member who was shot.

"He managed to shoot 1 KKB and ran with his colleagues into the forest," said Head of the Nemangkawi Operations Public Relations Task Force, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal to reporters, Wednesday (18/8).

He explained that the existence of the KKB headquarters was tracked by drone patrols around Welenggaru Village, North Gome District, Puncak Regency led by a Task Force team from the TNI.

At least three people suspected of being KKB were found hiding in the headquarters. They called Kamal fled into the honai after being spotted by a drone.

"The three of them shot the Cakra team," said Kamal.

After engaging in a gun battle, members of the armed separatist group fled into the forest. The officers immediately took control of the headquarters and conducted a search.

"Successfully secured one long barrel type M16," he said.

Currently, the Task Force is still investigating the group based in the area. Patrols were also held so that community activities in the Gome District run conducive and smoothly.

"The unit commanders instructed all their members to carry out Standby at their respective Posts to avoid security disturbances in the Ilaga Complex area after the shootout," he said.

Previously, the shooting incident in the Gome District area on Monday (16/8) had also been confirmed by the KKB. Spokesman for the West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM), Sebby Sambom, said one TNI member died and two others were injured.

According to him, the firefight was triggered by monitoring and a siege carried out by TNI-Polri troops on Sunday (15/8) at midnight.

"Monitoring of members smelled and finally gunfire was carried out from 11-12 noon," said Sebby.

However, this was denied by the Head of Pendam XVII/Cenderawasih, Lieutenant Colonel Arm Reza Nur Patria. He said one soldier was shot.

Later, the soldier had been taken to Mimika County for treatment.

"The condition of the victim is currently conscious," said Reza.
