Deputy of KSP: PON Papua Momentum for Equitable Development in Cendrawasih Earth

Deputy V of the Presidential Staff Office, Jaleswari Pramodhawardani, talked about how the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) in October 2021 will serve as a momentum for equitable development in Cendrawasih Earth.

He said this in a national webinar entitled "Organizing PON Papua and Awakening Spirit from the Pandemic" organized by the Peace House for the School of Strategic and Global Studies (SKSG) of the University of Indonesia (UI).

Jaleswari said sporting events could improve infrastructure in areas such as hotels, transportation, and sports facilities.

"PON 20 also involves athletes with disabilities who are symbols of Indonesia being friendly to people with disabilities," he said in a statement received on Saturday (4/9/2021).

He said that Papua is a producer of athletes with extraordinary enthusiasm and talent, such as Boaz Solossa who is an inspiration to young people.

"This is an honor for Papua to be a momentum to improve achievements in the national and international arena, the momentum to accelerate national vaccination, the great attention from the central government for the success of the Papua National Sports Week is something that continues to be appreciated," said Jaleswari.

The chairman of the UI Peace House Muhammad Sya'roni Rofii said that the implementation of the PON in the eastern tip of Indonesia was proof of the government's commitment to developing all corners of Indonesia, including Papua.
 
“There is a perception in the Papuan public that they are marginalized from the central government's development agenda. The fact is that the government is trying to build it in a planned manner without discriminating between regions," he said.

According to him, organizing PON in Papua is an effort to rise from the pandemic. Because, for the past two years the Indonesian nation has been shrouded in uncertainty due to the pandemic.

"The PON event can be the glue of national solidarity, especially close to the Youth Pledge Day," he added.

In terms of security, Dircrimum Polda Papua Kombes Faizal said that the preparation for securing the Papua PON went very well, involving all Polri stakeholders from the center to the regions.

On the same occasion, Papuan artist Putri Nere said organizing XX PON was a pride for Papuans.

“Everyone must work together to make PON Papua a success. The government's preparations are good, our task now is to help promote Papua PON," he said.

Choriul Anam, who also participated in the webinar, emphasized that PPI around the world always supports the implementation of the Papua PON to generate new enthusiasm during the pandemic.

"PON Papua can be a momentum to show the success of the Indonesian government in dealing with the pandemic," he said.
