West Papua Regional Police Denies Military Operation Issues in Maybrat

The West Papua Regional Police dismissed the issue of a military operation in Maybrat Regency. The police confirmed that the additional personnel in Maybrat were aimed at pursuing the perpetrators of the attack on the Kisor Koramil post.

"A joint team was deployed to Maybrat to investigate and pursue the criminals who attacked the Kisor Koramil preparation post," said West Papua Police Public Relations Head Kombes Adam Erwindi as quoted by Antara, Sunday (12/9/2021).

Adam asserted, once again, that there was no military operation in Maybrat. The reason is that an issue on social media has begun to mention that there is a military operation in the Land of Papua. He appealed to citizens to be wiser in using and absorbing information from social media.

"A number of sources are trying to create the issue of military operations in Maybrat, while the main task of the joint TNI-Polri team has been proven by revealing the KNPB organization as the main actor in the incident," said Adam.

Police have now arrested 2 suspects. A total of 17 people from the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) have been on the wanted list (DPO).

Head of Information for Kodam XVIII Kasuari Colonel Hendra Pesireron asked the public not to panic. TNI-Polri are still working to find the main mastermind behind the attack on the Koramil Post.

"The community is advised to return to the village, because the joint team is only looking for the perpetrators of the Koramil post attackers, not scaring the community or mistaking the target," said Hendra.
