The Government Will Build Papua With Excellent Human Resources Through Education

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the government wants to build Papua and West Papua to be more advanced. One way is to build superior human resources through education.

"We, the central government, are determined, we want to make Papua and West Papua not only equal but also more advanced than other regions," said Ma'ruf during a meeting with religious leaders from the West Papuan Religious Councils at the Christian Church. He appreciated the various social institutions, including the Religious Councils, which helped develop education in West Papua. According to him, the government wants the existing human resources to be more qualified, healthy, productive, which can provide benefits and have competitiveness, and have a competitive spirit.

"When I received information from the Reverend Mother, that education and the construction of a new church building were being developed here, because it no longer fit, and the existing schools were still staying in (other) places, even though the number (of students were many), later the government will take part,” said Ma'ruf.

Ma'ruf also said that the Papuan people have good talents as the motto "Torang Bisa". Therefore, he is optimistic that a more advanced Papua is not impossible to do. "We want this capable person not only to be a slogan, but it will be proven through education, development and training efforts," said Ma'ruf.

He also said that with the revision of the Papua Special Autonomy Law (Otsus), currently the Special Autonomy Fund from the General Allocation Fund (DAU) has increased from 2% to 2.25%. It is hoped that this will also have an impact on efforts to develop better education.

"This is to build the welfare of Papuans, especially Papuan Indigenous People (OAP)," said Maruf Amin.
