PON Papua Leaves Problems, Residents Ask for Repayment of Ulayat Rights
The implementation of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) in October 2021, still leaves various problems. Among them, the money has not been paid to replace the customary rights of residents in Jayapura Regency which is used for the construction of the 8-hectare Aquatic Venue.
The general chairman of the Jayapura Youth Movement (Gapura), Jack Judson Puraro, said that regarding the land for the development of the Aquatic Venue at the Sports Complex of Kampung Harapan Sentani, Jayapura Regency, the family of Daud Moro Ohee, who owns the location, asked the local government not to evade.
"The Papuan provincial government must keep its promise to the ulayat owners," said Jack Judson Puraro, Sunday (12/12/2021).
According to him, the local government promised to settle the compensation after the implementation of the XX PON. But in fact, until now there has been no seriousness of paying. "We see that there is no good faith from the government," he said.
He asked the government not to lie and be responsible. "Don't lie to the public," he said.
He said that before the XX PON was held, the Papuan Regional Police Chief had met with the customary owners and informed them that all problems would be resolved after the XX PON. "He installed a body to settle customary rights, we ask for help with what has been conveyed," he said.
Jack Puraro also requested that his relatives Jubel Ohee and Erik Ansaka who were involved in the action of blocking alternative roads prior to the implementation of the PON be released by the police.
“There are our families Jubel Ohee and Erik Ansaka arrested. Please release them, these are the chiefs of the tribes, and what they are doing is on ulayat rights, not belonging to other people and not government land," he explained.
Previously, at the end of November 2021, tens of XX PON medical volunteers in Jayapura took part in a demonstration demanding payment for their work.
They urged Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe to be responsible for the rights of PON health volunteers whose salaries have not been paid.
"President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) must order law enforcement officers to carry out financial audits and audits of PB PON XX Papua," said Hein Yopi Olua, a health worker for PON Papua.
