Social Minister Risma handed over aid to flood victims in Jayapura



Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini handed over aid to the injured and fatalities caused by floods and landslides in Jayapura, Papua.

Risma provided assistance of Rp. 15 million each for the seven heirs of the flood and landslide victims in Jayapura.

"According to the mandate given to the Ministry of Social Affairs to assist disaster survivors, there are actually eight victims in Jayapura but one has not been identified. So only seven have been assisted while waiting for one to be identified," Risma said at a press conference at GOR Waringin Jayapura, Thursday.

Another victim is from Wamena, said Risma.

In addition, Risma provided assistance to three survivors with serious injuries of Rp. 5 million each.

Risma also saw the condition of residents who suffered injuries to their heads. "Has this been x-rayed? His head is bruised from being buried, isn't it?" he said.

The assistance that will be handed over during his working visit to Jayapura is worth Rp. 1,390,539,388 which consists of disaster logistics assistance, compensation for heirs for 7 victims, 500 packages of basic necessities, 500 packages of cleaning tools, 500 packages of school equipment, 500 sheets of sarongs, 50 packs of baby supplies, and natural materials.

The working visit of the Minister of Social Affairs will be closed by reviewing public kitchens, refugee camps and psychosocial support services at the Jayapura Center for Social Welfare Education and Training (BBPPKS).

Previously, floods that occurred in four of the five districts in Jayapura City affected 8,268 residents.

Head of the Jayapura City Natural Disaster Emergency Response Team, Rustan Saru, said that most residents chose not to evacuate and remained in their homes for fear of being looted.

However, residents whose houses cannot be occupied due to heavy damage and damaged household appliances have chosen to evacuate since Sunday (9/1) night.

The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) noted that eight people died due to floods and landslides in Jayapura, Papua, which occurred last Thursday (6/1).
