The Government Protects Papuans Amid KST Papua's Potential Expansion of Operational Areas
The government is committed to protecting Papuans in the midst of potential threats from Papuan separatist and terrorist groups (KST). The threat is quite serious because this group is trying to expand their area of operation
Intelligence and security observer Stanislaus Riyanta assesses that the threat can be anticipated by applying two approaches, namely security and dialogue.
"If KST Papua has threatened, especially with armed action, of course the government is obliged to protect its citizens and sovereignty. But if we can still have a dialogue and return to the Republic of Indonesia, that is even better," said Stanislaus Riyanta to Mata Indonesia News, Friday, January 7, 2022.
Previously, several efforts had been made, one of which was the presence of the Nemangkawi Task Force. His contribution is quite significant because he succeeded in returning 53 members of KST Papua to the NKRI. While 27 other people were arrested.
So it is not surprising that the National Police Headquarters extended the Nemangkawi Task Force Operation in Papua. Operation plus 3 weeks ahead.
"It is true that Operation Nemangkawi has been extended until January 25, 2022," said Karopenmas of the National Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Pol Ahmad Ramadhan.
Ramadhan also emphasized that there was a slight difference in Operation Nemangkawi this time. Especially in terms of acting and targeting operations in different areas. The task force will focus on taking a welfare approach to the Papuan people. Meanwhile, the type of law enforcement efforts will be strictly reduced.
