Timika Starts Implementing Covid-19 Booster Vaccinations
A number of health centers in Mimika City, Papua, have started to carry out booster vaccinations for residents who have received two doses of the vaccine.
Head of the Mimika Health Service, Reynold Ubra in Timika, said that booster vaccinations have started to be carried out at several health centers in Timika City and will officially start on February 1.
“Booster vaccination services at several health centers have already started running. We will officially start on February 1, 2022," he said.
In order to speed up booster vaccination and vaccination of children aged 6-11 years, the Mimika Health Office staff held a meeting with the Mimika Police Chief AKBP IGG Era Adhinata.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of Mimika Police Ops, Kompol Dionisius V.D. Paron Helan, Head of Binmas Mimika Police Iptu Paulus Tandi Ratu, and the Mimika Police Tribrata Clinic.
"The Mimika Police Tribrata Clinic has started vaccinating school children aged 6-11 years and getting booster vaccinations," he said.
The booster vaccination is prioritized for the elderly (elderly) provided that they have previously received a complete vaccine with a gap of more than six months. Booster vaccinations are carried out in areas with vaccination coverage of more than 70 percent of the total target.
In Mimika, the coverage of the first dose of vaccination is around 72 percent and the coverage of the second dose of vaccination is only 58 percent. The coverage of the third dose of vaccination, aka a booster of one percent, is limited to a number of health workers (nakes) with a total of more than 3,000 people.
Reynold said that the Covid-19 vaccination coverage in Mimika was one of the highest in Papua Province apart from Merauke Regency which had reached 80 percent for the first dose and Jayapura Regency and Jayapura City which reached more than 70 percent for the first dose.
In Mimika, the reach of the Covid-19 vaccination service has not yet reached the people who live in villages and districts from the coast to the mountains.
"Our people in coastal areas, especially in mountainous areas, have not received any Covid-19 vaccinations, either the first or second doses, due to various reasons, including geographical conditions, difficult transportation, coupled with the unavailability of refrigerators to store vaccines," he said. .
