Traditional Leaders Urge Government to Appoint Acting Governor of Papua

A number of traditional leaders in Papua have urged the Central Government to appoint the Acting Governor of Papua to replace Lukas Enembe, who is getting weaker in running the government due to a prolonged illness.

Lukas is known to be undergoing serious treatment. In a short video posted on social media, Lukas, along with someone, had said that he would travel to Ukraine, expected to join the recovery program.
 
"Currently the condition of the Governor of Papua is sick and needs treatment," said Jackob Fiobetauw, Chairman of the Sentani Tribal Court of Jayapura Regency, accompanied by, among others, Menase Taime, Chair of the Humanitarian Care Forum, Jhon Maurits Suebu, Secretary of the Humanitarian Care Forum, Jhon Suebu, Ondoafi Ifale and Jhon Tukayo, Head of the Heram Ayapoesar Tribe in a press statement in Abepura, Jayapura, Tuesday (4/1/2022).

Indigenous leaders and the Humanitarian Care Forum asked for Lukas to be replaced before March 2022.

Jackob added, the effectiveness of governance in Papua, has not been maximized. One of the causative factors is; the lack of capacity of implementing officials in managing the bureaucracy.

The low quality of officials and excessive corrupt actions, he said, had added to the 'bad image' of the bureaucracy that the public did not expect.

The bad image of the bureaucracy was also influenced by the leadership of Governor Lukas Enembe. Lukas, he said, who could actually manage Papua better, has even left a track record of exacerbating bureaucratic services to the community.

For him, Luke was no longer capable in the past year. So many events, which show the leadership qualities of the number one Papuan, continue to fall.

"This is influenced by his health which has declined drastically," he said.

Jackob continued, Lukas must follow various doctor's instructions and medical actions that take up his time to serve Papuans.

According to him, Lukas has neglected his duties as Governor of Papua.

"Therefore, we ask to immediately appoint an Acting Governor of Papua so that the government can return to its optimum," he concluded.
