Deputy Governor of West Papua: Southwest Papua as an Effort to Accelerate Regional Development



The Deputy Governor of West Papua supports the expansion of the province of Southwest Papua as an effort to accelerate development and bring services closer to the community.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Governor of West Papua, Mohammad Lakotani.
 
He said that in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 2 of 2021 as a replacement for Law No. 21 of 2001 concerning special autonomy for the Papua Province, there were several regions that became expansion areas, namely the province of South West Papua.

"Then, regarding the aspirations, hopes and desires of a number of people in various regencies/cities in West Papua, I think it's legitimate and reasonable because the purpose of the establishment of a new autonomous region is to serve the community," he said. West Papua Deputy Governor, Mohammad Lakotani when met in Sorong Regency, Friday (4/2/22).
 
He conveyed that the areas in question include the Fakfak area, Misol, the Sebyar and Babo areas in the Teluk Bintuni district and other areas.

He added that with the closeness of services in the community, according to him, speed of service and equitable development could occur.

"The expansion of the region, there will be an acceleration of development in it, so that it is equal to the districts and cities in Papua," he said.
 
In addition, he said the government supports and facilitates the expansion of the province of Southwest Papua, because the government has the intention to advance the region for the welfare of the community.

"In terms of requirements, the existing sub-districts, the population to the area, it is possible for us to jointly push for its expansion," he added.

Based on data compiled by Sorongnews.com, all districts or cities in Papua are divided into six provinces.

A total of six regencies or cities, namely Raja Ampat, South Sorong Sorong, Maybrat, Tambrauw, and Sorong City are planned to be part of the Southwest Papua Province.

Then, seven districts namely Manokwari, Arfak Mountains, West Mankowari, Bintuni Bay, Wondama Bay, Fak Fak, and Kaimana are planned to be part of West Papua Province.
 
Six other regencies namely Paniyai, Degiyai, Dogiyai, Intan Jaya, Mimika, and Nabire are planned to be part of Central Papua Province.

Next is South Papua Province, which is planned to cover five districts namely Merauke, Asmat, Mappi, Bovendigoel, and Bintang Mountains.

Meanwhile, nine other regencies or cities namely Jayapura City, Jayapura, Keerom, Sarmi, Membramo Raya, Waropen, Yapen Islands, Biak Numfor, and Supiori will be part of Tabi Saireri Papua Province.

Furthermore, nine districts namely Jayawijaya, Yahukimo, Yalimo, Tolikara, Lanny Jaya, Membramo Tengah, Nduga, Puncak Jaya, and Puncak are planned to be part of the Central Mountains Province.
