Schools in Timika start vaccinating children aged 6-11 years

A number of schools in Timika, Mimika Regency, Papua, have collaborated with the nearest Puskesmas since Monday morning to vaccinate children aged 6-11 years.

One of the vaccination activities for children aged 6-11 years was held at the Kalam Kudus Christian Elementary School which is located at Jalan Kampung Nawaripi, attended by dozens of students.

Previously, the Mimika Education and Culture Office in collaboration with the local Health Office had conducted socialization to all schools in Timika for the implementation of vaccinations for children aged 6-11 years.

The head of the Mimika Education and Culture Office, Jeni O Usmani, said the school was obliged to notify the parents of the activity.

"Vaccine against children cannot be forced, the decision to have a child vaccinated or not to return to the parents of each student," explained Jeni.

According to the direction of the Minister of Education and Culture Nabil Makarim, he said, child vaccines are not a requirement for face-to-face schools.

What is required, he said, is that teachers must have been vaccinated so that they can hold face-to-face learning (PTM).

"One of the requirements for a teacher to be able to teach in the classroom is to have received the COVID-19 vaccine. On average, teachers have been vaccinated, because if they are not vaccinated, they cannot teach. If they do not teach, they cannot receive incentives," he said. Jeni.

Until now, schools in Mimika, especially in Timika City, both public and private schools have not been able to implement PTM 100 percent.

If there are schools that insist on doing PTM 100 percent then the school will get strict sanctions from the government.

Previously, the Mimika Police Tribrata Clinic vaccine outlet began serving COVID-19 vaccinations for school children aged 6-11 years since the third week of last January.
