In session 49, there is no agenda and discussion regarding specifically Indonesia

 

Director of Human Rights and Humanity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) Achsanul Habib emphasized that there was no agenda or discussion regarding Indonesia at the 49th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HAM) Session. The session of the UN Human Rights Council will be held on 28 March-1 April.
 
"In session 49, there is no agenda and discussion regarding specifically Indonesia or special issues, such as allegations of human rights violations in the provinces of Papua and West Papua," said Achsanul in a virtual press briefing on Thursday (10/3/2022).
 
He said Indonesia along with 46 other members of the UN Human Rights Council were actively involved in the one month round of negotiations. Recently, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet delivered a report on the human rights situation that is of global concern today.

"There are about 25 that are highlighted, including the issue of Ukraine, Russia, South Asia, and Africa. Indonesia does not exist," he said.

Achsanul also straightened out the news circulating that a delegation from the UN Human Rights Council would visit to examine the human rights situation in Papua and West Papua. "I emphasize that there is no request or plan for a visit for this year, because the UN Human Rights Council has completely handed over the regulations to the Indonesian government," he said.

Achsanul explained that the Government of Indonesia had sent an invitation to review the development and achievements of the SDGs in Papua and West Papua. Completely unrelated to the investigative framework.

Previously, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) received reports from non-governmental organizations on the human rights situation in Papua and West Papua. The Indonesian government has also sent a letter to the PPB Human Rights Council through the Special Procedures Mandate Holders (SPMH) regarding clarification and explanation regarding this matter.
