Papua Revisions RTRW, Green Spatial Planning and Maintain Environmental Sustainability

The revision of the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) in Papua has begun to be regulated through the use of road, river and protected forest infrastructure.

This is in the context of utilizing the environment and physical activities.

The revision was discussed in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) which took place in Jayapura City from Tuesday (22/3/2022) to Thursday (24/3/2022).

The agenda for discussing the revision of the RTRW was followed by various elements from the central government, provinces, districts, cities, academics, development partners, associations, representative institutions, BUMN, TNI-Polri and the media.

The Head of Regional Planning and Development of the Papua Province Bappeda, Edison Howay explained that the revision was carried out every five years.

"Why? Due to the development of development in the past five years, there has been space utilization and physical activity or everything has been shifted," said Edison to the media crew including Tribun-Papua.com.

The RTRW revision aims to harmonize data and information on spatial planning and the environment.

"So that in the future there will be no environmental destruction that causes disasters for future generations," he explained.

According to Edison, Papua's commitment to spatial planning is green.

"So protecting the environment is the most important thing, we must not ignore the environment and our children and grandchildren will experience disasters in the future," he said.

Meanwhile, Representative of Papua Spatial Planning (PSP), Imelda Sihombing added, spatial planning in Papua needs to be maintained so that in the future it can become an instrument and there will be no land deforestation.

"Because it's not only development and community welfare that is the main thing, but environmental sustainability is also important," said Imelda.

Imelda added that PSP together with Bappeda Papua will realize new aspects in the revision of the RTRW.

"Such as economic, environmental, ecological, and socio-cultural aspects to be in harmony with the concepts that we have prepared," he explained.

He emphasized that Papua is a visionary province.

"All of this has been designed so that in the future our children and grandchildren in Papua can feel a good environment, and have increased economic income, are independent and prosperous," he said.
