Police gang, KNPB chairman Buchtar Tabuni and 6 of his colleagues arrested in Jayapura
The chairman of the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) Buchtar Tabuni was secured by joint personnel from the Jayapura City Police, Papua. Buchtar and six other people were arrested in Kampwolker, Perumnas III Waena, Yabansai Village, Heram District, Jayapura City, Papua, Thursday (24/3/2022).
Jayapura city police chief, Kombes Pol. Gustav Urbinas, said Buchtar and his colleagues were taken to the Jayapura City Police Headquarters for clarification. Because based on information, a meeting will be held at the residence of Buchtar, who also serves as Chair of the West Papua Council for the Provisional Government of West Papua (ULMWP).
The meeting was known with a discussion agenda, addressing the attitude of the Dutch Parliament and Government on the History of West Papua on April 5, 2022 in the Netherlands.
"When patrolling personnel visited Bucktar Tabuni's residence with the aim of making an appeal not to hold the meeting, one of our members was ganged up by several elements at the location," said Gustav.
He said that about 10 people beat the security forces so that the personnel defended themselves.
"But there is one more member of ours who was hit. So there are two members who were beaten," he said.
However, Gustav continued, the two members did not suffer serious injuries, only received several blows.
"From the results of the examination, thankfully our members did not suffer significant injuries," he said.
Furthermore, Buchtar and his colleagues after being asked for clarification, his party will make a statement letter.
