OAP youth leaders say the government is serious about developing Papua
A number of youth leaders of Orang Asli Papua or OAP said that the central government is serious about developing Papua with programs that have a direct impact on the people on Earth of Cenderawasih.
One of the OAP figures, Sawy Sitapay, in a press release received in Jayapura, Thursday, said that the government's seriousness in developing Papua has made his party not hesitate to support the sustainability of development in this easternmost province in Indonesia.
"We do not hesitate to support the development programs carried out by the central government in Papua, including the policy on the extension of special autonomy (otsus)," he said.
According to Sitapay, improving road infrastructure, education and health are government programs that have a positive impact on the Papuan people.
"This is proof of the government's alignment with the Land of Papua with massive development being carried out," he said.
In addition, his party encourages the government to strengthen cooperation with neighboring Papua New Guinea, especially in border guarding to anticipate illegal or unofficial crossings.
He added that by pressing security in border areas in Indonesia, it can avoid the smuggling of illegal goods.
"The smuggling of illegal goods has the potential to be used by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) to import firearms and ammunition into Papua," he said.
OAP youth leader Sawy Sitapay lives in neighboring Papua New Guinea.
He along with other OAP figures in PNG, namely Isaac Kareth, Jon Blass, and Isak Apasaray declared themselves to support the Republic of Indonesia through a declaration by unfurling the Red and White flag as proof of support.
The historic event was carried out at the Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, Wednesday (27/4).
