Three major events will be held in Jayapura Regency this year, namely the Regency Sports Week which will be held around June, the Lake Sentani Festival (FDS) which will be held in July and the Congress of the Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN) which will be held in October.

Regional Secretary Hanna Hikoyabi said that the implementation of this activity is expected to have an economic impact on the community.

"We certainly hope that the implementation of the three major agendas in Jayapura Regency can have an economic impact on the people in Jayapura Regency," he said.

He explained, the implementation of the District Sports Week (Porkab) was deliberately held by the Jayapura Regency government through the Regency KONI to look for the best athlete seeds in Jayapura Regency. This activity will involve athletes and also the community at the village level.

"We want to capture the seeds of future athletes who can make Papua and Jayapura Regency proud. But on the other hand, there is economic empowerment for the people," he said.
Furthermore, the Lake Sentani Festival activity is also an effort by the government to empower the community's economy. They can introduce and sell the existing potentials through the festival activities.

Even though for the last 2 years the Sentani Lake Festival activity had been vacuumed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, it is hoped that this year the government will ensure that it will hold an event that has become a routine every year.

"We will encourage the implementation of the Lake Sentani Festival in collaboration with the Grime Festival in Genyem. So that this FDS contains grime and Sentani Lake. So there is collaboration," he explained.

The next activity was that the Indigenous Peoples Congress of the Archipelago was held in October this year and the Jayapura Regency Government was appointed to host the event. At least there were more than 7,000 people from all over the archipelago who were present in Jayapura Regency at the event.
