Otsus is considered to give the Papuan people an opportunity to make achievements

The Special Autonomy Fund (Otsus) is considered to be able to open up opportunities and opportunities for the indigenous Papuan people to make achievements. The opportunity is to get an education abroad because of a scholarship from the Special Autonomy Fund.

This was conveyed by the Executive Director of the Human Studies Institute, Rasminto. According to him, currently there are many indigenous Papuans who have become pioneers in the field of science, both on a local, national and international scale.

"Currently, indigenous Papuans have become pioneers in various scientific fields, so the opportunity to make Papua more advanced is more open," said Rasminto in a virtual discussion entitled 'Prospective Papuan Development in the New Normal Era' quoted on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.

According to him, several achievements have been made by native Papuan sons. This makes the country proud because they are educated abroad thanks to scholarships from the OTUs Fund.

Rasminto gave an example of this achievement, such as Sherina Fernanda Msen who successfully studied at Corban University, Oregon, United States.

"Sherina has succeeded in making the Earth of Cenderawasih and even Indonesia proud, because she graduated with magna cum laude or honors," said Rasminto.

Sherina majored in Business Administration in the Accounting Leadership and Management program. In addition to Sherina, another Papuan child named Yafeth Werijo also majored in Ministry Linguistics at Corban University, Oregon, USA by successfully getting the best student award.

Meanwhile, several other Papuan students also graduated with 285 other graduates from various countries, namely Janet Theresia Matani, a student majoring in Health Science, Maria Magdalena Pallo, majoring in Education and Intercultural. In addition, there are Maria Rosalia Nasadit and Marlina Sorabut, majoring in Business Administration, Accounting Leadership and Management program.

In this regard, the Papuan Provincial Government appreciates the achievements of a number of students who have successfully studied in the United States. Moreover, most of the Papuan children achieved above-average GPA scores.

Assistant for the Papua Regional Secretariat in Jayapura, Doren said there are at least 325 Papuan students who prefer to study in various US states.

"Many native Papuan students in the US have achieved extraordinary GPAs. This again makes me not understand why their GPA is high but those studying in Indonesia have dropped," said Doren Wakerwa, after receiving representatives from the University of Rhode Island, United States, recently this.

He also hopes that all Papuan students who study domestically can also achieve as well as abroad. Then, when they return, they can contribute to the development of Papua.
