The Alliance of Empowered Students to Support the Implementation of the New Autonomous Region and Special Autonomy in Papua
The plan for the implementation of the New Autonomous Region (DOB) and the extension of the Special Autonomy (Otsus) volume II in Papua has received support from various parties.
One of them is a group of Papuan students who are members of the Alliance of Empowered Students (AMB).
This support was revealed during a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activity held in Semarang with the theme "Implementation of new autonomous regions and special autonomy in Papua".
One of the Papuans, Cris Yarangga, who acted as the trigger for the discussion, expressed his support for the proposal.
According to Cris Yarangga, the implementation of new autonomous regions and special autonomy in Papua can increase employment opportunities in Papua.
A moment later, the implementation of DOB and Otsus is expected to be able to improve the welfare of the Papuan people.
"But it needs to be reviewed first. The consideration is that Otsus has not yet maximized its benefits for the welfare of the Papuan people," said Cris Yarangga, Saturday, June 18, 2022.
In line with Cris Yarangga, Rizal, one of the Papuan students who received the 2005 affirmation scholarship at the University of Indonesia (UI) Medicine, stated that he supports the existence of new autonomous regions, while technical matters need to be prepared more thoroughly.
In contrast, Yosef thinks that the division of territory in Papua must adapt to the cultural conditions of the Papuan people.
"The goal is that the people of Papua in the future will be more prepared for the modernization brought by the newcomers," he said.
As many as 30 students who are members of the Alliance of Empowered Students (AMB) participated in the discussion.
They formulated several aspirations related to DOB and Otsus support.
The participants hope that this discussion can be a consideration for policy makers, both the central government and local governments in Papua.
So, the implementation of DOB and Otsus will really raise the welfare of the Papuan people, especially the indigenous people.
"Don't let the existing policies make Papuans like the Aboriginal tribes in Australia," added Cris Yarangga.
