Various Elements of Papuan Students Support the New Newborn Expansion Policy
In the dynamics of development of a region, youth and students as agents of national change have a significant role in supporting the territorial progress of the region. His presence is expected to be able to become a relay rod as well as a breath of fresh air in the formulation of thoughts based on technological developments and times.
Talking about the ins and outs and problems that occur in Papua, cannot be separated from the intervention of youth and students. Papuan statistical data for 2020 states that the Earth of Cenderawasih is currently dominated by generations Y, Z, and negligent. The results of the study indicate that generations X and Y play an active role in social media because they have resources, tools, and money. Meanwhile, Generation Z is more of an active follower in sharing content and even sharing without thinking. Then the alpha generation becomes an active consumer generation.
Looking at the future of Papua, of course, we are faced with several situations and trends, such as a surge in the demographics of the younger generation, new life styles of society, increasingly diverse ethnicities and ethics, urbanization, and new small and medium-sized cities that have emerged. In the context of development, it can be seen from the dynamics of the new policies issued by the state in handling conflicts as well as accelerating Papua's development. Some of them, namely the policy of Special Autonomy (Otsus) and the Expansion of New Autonomous Regions (DOB) which are currently being discussed by various parties, including youth and of course students.
Encouragement from KMP to Immediately Implement DOB Policy
A student element calling itself the Papuan Student Conference (KMP) asked the government to seriously discuss the new autonomous region bill. The KMP coordinator, Moytuer Boymasa stated that his party was talking about how the land of Papua would be in 10, 20, or even 50 years in the future and imagine that Papua would be able to grow and develop, one of which is because of the expansion which is believed to be implemented soon. The wave of support for the new Papua New Guinea expansion policy that continues to flow rapidly but has not been responded to by the government has become a special concern for the group. For this reason, his party encourages the government to immediately expand as one of the efforts so that the economic problems that are currently happening in Papua are immediately resolved.
In a concrete effort to encourage this, KMP then met with the Ministry of Home Affairs who was later accepted by the Director of Regional Arrangement and Special Autonomy of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to discuss the development of new autonomous regions in Papua. The encouragement to the government regarding new autonomous regions is a response from youths who are concerned about equitable distribution and acceleration of development as well as social welfare.
AMP Yogyakarta Support for Papua New Guinea Expansion Policy
Still related to support for the Papua New Guinea, an encouraging news came from the Papuan Student Alliance (AMP). If all this time we have always heard that this group of students is always in the line of demonstrations against the new autonomous region policy, but this is not the case in the student city of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).
AMP DOB Yogyakarta Committee simultaneously held a demonstration of support for the plan for the expansion of new autonomous regions in the Papua region, taking place in the Tugu Monument area of Yogyakarta on Friday 10 June 2022. The field coordinator (korlap) for the action, Arnold stated that the activity was a form of democratization and support for the government center in its efforts to improve the welfare of the Papuan people through the plan for the expansion of new autonomous regions and the continuation of Otsus.
In their action, the student group expressed their support for Otsus Volume II, supported the plan for the expansion of the new autonomous regions, supported the construction of the Polres and Kodim in Dogiyai Regency for the sake of public safety, supported the continuation of the plan for the construction of the Antariksa airport in Biak, and rejected the request for the right of self-determination/referendum by the group. interest.
The existence of support from AMP Yogyakarta is expected to spread and influence AMP in other provincial or regional committees including those in Papua to support the new autonomous region policy as a form of concern for the land of Papua from students. To note that AMP is a student element who rejects the DOB policy, it is indicated that there has been a split where some committees have turned to support. Hopefully after this there will be more statements of attitude from other committees to support government policies.

DOB Policy Support from the Archipelago Community in Manokwari, West Papua
Not only from the Papuan people themselves, support also came from the Province of West Papua through a declaration made at the Borasi Manokwari field on June 10, 2022, on behalf of the Alliance of indigenous Papuans and the people of the Archipelago in West Papua.
