Jokowi Signs Law on the Establishment of 3 New Papua Provinces

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) signed a law (UU) on the formation of three new provinces in Papua. The three new provinces in Papua are South Papua, Central Papua, and Papua Mountains.

The law was signed by Law Number 14 of 2022 concerning the Establishment of the Province of South Papua, Law Number 15 of 2022 concerning the Establishment of the Province of Central Papua, and Law Number 16 of 2022 concerning the Establishment of the Province of Papua Mountains. Jokowi signed these three laws on July 25, 2022.
 
"That the division of territory in Papua Province needs to pay attention to the aspirations of the Papuan people to accelerate equitable development, improve public services, and improve the welfare of the community as well as raise the dignity of the Indigenous Papuans, especially in Merauke Regency, Boven Digoel Regency, Mappi Regency, and Asmat Regency," that's the sound of the considerations of the three laws as seen by detikcom, Friday (29/7/2022).
 
The law regulates the coverage of the 3 new provinces of Papua. Here's the coverage:

- Merauke Regency
- District of Boven Digoel
- Mappi County
- Asmat Kabupaten District

2. Central Papua

- Nabire District
- Puncak Jaya Regency
- Paniai District
- Mimika County
- Puncak Regency
- Dogiyai County
- Intan Jaya Regency
- Deiyai County

3. Papua Mountains

- Jayawijaya Regency
- Star Mountain District
- Yahukimo Kabupaten County
- Tolikara Regency
- Central Mamberamo Regency
- Yalimo Kabupaten County
- Lanny Jaya Regency
- Nduga Regency
 
The three laws also regulate the inauguration and inauguration of the acting governor. The inauguration and inauguration of the acting governor will be carried out by the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) no later than 6 months after the Act is enacted.
