Kapolda Admits KKB Disruption in Papua is Increasing

The Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri admitted that harassment from armed criminal groups (KKB) during the first semester had increased. He compared his increase to the same period in 2021.

During the first semester of 2022, 44 cases of KKB disorders were recorded. Namely in the form of shooting, shooting contact, persecution, burning and seizure of firearms. Meanwhile, in the first semester of 2021, 33 cases were recorded, said Inspector General Pol Fakhiri in a one-semester reflection in Jayapura, Thursday (30/6/2022).

Admittedly, of the 44 cases of security disturbances caused by KKB, the most occurred in Puncak Regency, namely 20 cases, Bintang Mountains and Nduga each with five cases. The districts of Yahukimo and Intan Jaya each had three cases, while the districts of Puncak Jaya, Mimika, Paniai, Nabire, Jayawijaya and Deiyai each had one case.

The victims were recorded as 12 civilians, seven members of the TNI and a member of the National Police as well as four KKB members. The Regional Police have repeatedly warned that members who work in vulnerable areas are always vigilant and not careless, as well as civilians. Especially those who work as motorcycle taxi drivers because many of them are victims.

"Always be alert and don't be easily provoked because life is at stake," said Inspector General Pol Fakhiri.
