KKB Terror is Increasingly Brutal and Inhumane, Papuan Traditional Leaders: It's Economically Motivated
Papuan traditional leader Yanto Eluay also commented on the heinous terror of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) which killed dozens of civilians in Nduga Regency, including one mining worker in Yahukimo last Saturday (16/7/2022).
When met with Yanto Eluay, KKB was actually also a Papuan indigenous child in the mountainous region and should not have committed heinous and inhumane acts against civilians.
"We, as traditional leaders in Papua, deeply regret and are concerned and at the same time strongly condemn the events that have occurred and keep repeating themselves. We also express our deep condolences and hope that the family will be given fortitude. Whatever the reason and wherever it is located, if an indigenous child commits an inhumane act and brutality not only by the KKB but whoever the indigenous Papuan child commits a heinous act, we condemn it," he told reporters on Sunday (24/7/2022).
His party really hopes that the incident that sacrificed innocent civilians does not happen again. Groups that still have ideological opposites should carry out activities that are more dignified.
"For our brothers and sisters who have different ideas or who do not recognize Papua's political status within the Unitary Republic of Indonesia, please respond to it in a dignified way. There are organizations and factions that carry out this struggle, so that they also convey to the KKB not to take action. "A cruel and inhumane act," he said.
He also hopes that the government and security forces in vulnerable areas will always establish good communication and be able to provide detection so that similar incidents do not happen again.
"To our brothers and sisters who are looking for life in the mountainous districts, please stay alert for any possibilities that may occur. The local government and security forces there also hope to be able to detect and provide security for our brothers there," he said.
Regarding the motive for killing civilians, Yanto said that the KKB actions that resulted in civilian casualties were due to economic factors and not because of the Free Papua movement.
"If we follow a number of events, they are closely related to economic motives. Like the incident where most of the victims were traders or mining workers, this is an economic motive. People in this condition live difficult lives, so they do that," he said.
"I emphasize that these KKB actions have nothing to do with government policies, both regarding Otsus Volume 2 or the New Expansion Region (DOB). Don't associate them. Don't associate them with the Free Papua movement either. Because I see it is related to the economy. , so what they do to scare the people, and finally what they want they can get," he continued.
It is said, by taking actions, the KKB will get something (money) such as the acts of terror in Nduga and Yahukimo so that many become victims.
"I convey that inhumane methods should not be used, we as indigenous peoples should use dignified ways and maintain the identity of indigenous peoples, so that we are respected and respected as fellow human beings, not killing innocent people and only killing people. I want to live there," he explained.
"Once again, I reiterate that we should not link the events that occurred, especially in the mountains, with the rejection of government policies, in our opinion, this is an economic motive," he said.
