589 students received educational assistance from the Manokwari Regency Government

The Manokwari Regency Government in West Papua Province allocated funds to provide tuition assistance for 589 students.

Manokwari Regent Hermus Indou symbolically handed over tuition assistance to four student representatives who received the aid after leading a morning rally in the Manokwari Regent's office yard, Monday.

"I believe that the brothers and sisters who are receiving aid today are extraordinary people who can maintain God's trust, their parents' trust, and also ensure that their future can be built well," said Hermus.

Head of the Education Sub-Section of the Manokwari Regency People's Welfare Agency Dorsila Rumadas said that the district government allocated Rp3,645 billion to provide tuition assistance for 589 students.

The distribution of tuition assistance was carried out in two stages with the number of students receiving assistance in the first phase as many as 340 people and recipients of assistance in the second phase as many as 249 people.

Education cost assistance from the Manokwari Regency Government is Rp. 3 million for diploma three social science students, Rp. 5 million for undergraduate students of social sciences, Rp. 7.5 million for non-technical science program students, Rp. 10 million for engineering program students, and Rp. 15 million for medical science students.

Dorsila said that the first stage of tuition assistance had been sent to the accounts of the recipients in August 2022 and the distribution of the second stage of tuition assistance was still in process.

He explained that the provision of tuition assistance for students was carried out based on a scholarship application proposal submitted to the district government.

The provision of tuition assistance, according to him, is carried out by considering the length of study that has been undertaken by students who apply for educational assistance.

"This year, most of the aid that we distribute is to students who apply for educational assistance from 2020 and 2021," said Dorsila.

The students who received the assistance included studying at the University of Papua, Erikson College of Theology, Mah-Eisa College of Economics, STIMIK Kreatindo, STIKIP Muhammadiyah, ISTI, Ikat Theology College, Agricultural Development Polytechnic, and the Nursing Academy.

The Manokwari Regency Government also provides tuition assistance from the Special Autonomy Fund for students from Manokwari who study outside the region.

Dorsila said that the district government plans to provide educational assistance to post-graduate education program students.

"But for that we are still waiting for the Regent's regulation to be issued," he said.
