Jayapura City Government Allocates IDR 4 Billion for Handling the Impact of Fuel Price Increase
The City Government (Pemkot) of Jayapura City will allocate a budget of 4 billion rupiah for its relation, in handling the impact of the increase in fuel prices in the capital city of Papua Province.
This was revealed by the Acting Mayor of Jayapura, Frans Pekey to the media crew including Tribun-Papua.com, after chairing the Regional Inflation Control Meeting in the Sian Soor Hall, Jayapura Mayor's Office, Entrop, South Jayapura District, Thursday (8/9/2022) .
"According to existing regulations, we will take 2 percent of the DBH and DAU transfer funds that we take of approximately 4 billion to be provided or allocated, for handling the impact of the increase in fuel prices in Jayapura City," explained Frans.
He detailed that the allocation will be used, including for social assistance, market operations, and other activities to control inflation.
Furthermore, Frans explained that in a meeting held by his party with Forkopimda who are members of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), they discussed the steps that must be taken in controlling inflation, after the determination of the fuel price increase.
"Whether it concerns social assistance, readiness for budget relocation, and also related to efforts to control the price of goods on the market, especially commodities that contribute to inflation," he said.
He gave an example of commodities that were in the spotlight at the TPID meeting, such as chili, shallots, garlic, eggs, chicken, kale and so on.
"We will meet the next scheme on Wednesday next week, to draw up more concrete follow-up steps from the team," he said.
According to existing regulations, Frans said the Jayapura City Government had also allocated funds from the APBD to finance TPID's work in market operations.
"In addition, to provide social assistance for public transportation, especially drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers, to fishermen and several professions who are directly affected by the increase in fuel prices," he concluded.
Apart from that, he said that the Central Government through national policies had allocated BLT, in which there was food assistance that was distributed through the Jayapura Post Office and is currently running.
"I also asked the OPD who were present, especially the Jayapura City Fisheries Service, to collect data for fishermen, both in the provision of social assistance funds and the arrangement of subsidized fuel services," he said.
Later in the meeting, Frans also instructed the Disperindagkop and the Food and Agriculture Security Service on how to take anticipatory steps to the impacts caused by the increase in fuel prices, specifically the price of goods.
"I ask to meet with distributors who store, distribute or supply commodities for people from outside Jayapura and outside Papua," he added.
Then, through this meeting, Bank Indonesia conveyed something related to optimizing cooperation with several regions to supply certain commodities with sea toll access, so that it is hoped that they will be able to control prices in the market later.
Meanwhile, for the determination of the basic tariff for urban transportation, his party is still waiting for a decision or decision from the Papua Provincial Government.
"But specifically for air transportation, the regulator is through the Ministry, what we can do is write a letter to consider the increase in air ticket prices," closed Frans.
