The Ministry of Finance disburses Rp10.75 billion in incentives to West Papua

The Ministry of Finance disbursed the Regional Incentive Fund (DID) of Rp. 10.75 billion to West Papua Province because the local government was considered successful in suppressing the inflation rate below the national level.

Acting Governor of West Papua Paulus Waterpauw in Manokwari, Wednesday, said West Papua ranks third out of the top 10 provinces in Indonesia that are able to keep inflation below the national level of around 5 percent.

"According to the direction of the regional president, he was asked to reduce the inflation rate to below 5 percent. Based on official data from the BPS for the period of May 2022, West Papua's inflation fell by 0.42 percent from 3.56 percent to 3.14 percent," said Waterpauw after the APBD ratification meeting. 2022 changes.

The award given by the Ministry of Finance, he said, became an encouragement for the Provincial Government and all stakeholders in West Papua to carry out their duties in an effort to increase welfare through economic growth and suppress inflation.

"Hopefully this will spur our enthusiasm to be more consistent in maintaining the welfare of the people in West Papua," said the three-star retired National Police Commissioner General of Police.

Waterpauw mentioned several strategic steps that have been taken to suppress inflation in West Papua, one of which is establishing synergy with the leaders of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) in spending state money through tasks that target economic growth in the community.

In addition, the cooperation of the West Papua Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) in intervening in the prices of basic commodities in the region.

In order for the inflation rate to be controlled in West Papua, Waterpauw asked for the support and active role of the district/city government to continue to monitor the prices of basic necessities, especially after the fuel price adjustment in early September.
