MAKI: Luke Enembe doesn't have a gold mine in Tolikara

The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) does not see a match between the facts and the defense claim of the corruption suspect Lukas Enembe regarding the source of the Papua Governor's assets. MAKI Coordinator, Boyamin Saiman, said that from the results of his investigation, he concluded that Lukas Enembe's wealth did not originate from the management of a private gold mine, which is said to be located in Mamit, Tolikara, Papua.

Boyamin said that MAKI had checked the permit and the existence of gold mining exploration on the official website of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Kemen ESDM). "As a result, there is no recorded gold mine in Mamit, Tolikara," said Boyamin in a press release received by journalists in Jakarta, Sunday (2/10/2022).

The results of MAKI's search, said Boyamin, were to answer the defense claim of lawyer Stefanus Roy Rening who asserted that Lukas Enembe's vast wealth came from the management of a private gold mine in Mamit. Boyamin said, MAKI had checked the ownership and management permit for gold mines in Papua through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources website.

He said, until now, there are only three listed corporations that have a gold mine exploration permit in Bumi Cenderawasih. They are PT Trident Global Garmindo, which has permits for exploration sites in Nabire and Dogiyai, PT Iriana Mutiara Idenburg in the Bintang Mountains, and PT Freeport Indonesia in Mimika and Paniai.

"There is no permit whatsoever related to gold mining or any mining in Mamit, Tolikara," said Boyamin.

Boyamin explained that the reference to the exploration permit from the ESDM Ministry was able to break the unilateral claim about the origin and source of Lukas Enembe's wealth. Because he said, if Lukas Enembe as a state official owns a private precious iron mining business, of course he understands with the conditions for licensing for mineral exploration.

On the other hand, if the Democrat Party politician's private gold mine is in Mamit, then it is illegal. "If it's illegal, this is also a legal matter, so it's something else," said Boyamin.

According to him, the claim of Lukas Enembe's lawyer, who will only take care of the mining permit, does not answer about the origin of Lukas' assets. This is because the exploration has not been able to run during the permit process. “That means it has produced nothing so far. Or have not produced a single rupiah," said Boyamin.

The KPK last week announced the appointment of Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe as a suspect. He is suspected of receiving a Rp 1 billion gratuity related to the Papuan APBD. KPK Commissioner Alexander Marwata said that the investigation into the Lukas case would not only target the alleged gratification. This is because hundreds of billions of rupiah in transactions related to Lukas Enembe were 'tapped' by the Financial Transaction and Analysis Reporting Center (PPATK).

The KPK has summoned Lukas Enembe to be questioned as a suspect in the red and white building, Jakarta on Monday (3/10/2022). In the previous summons, the KPK failed to examine Luke because the governor was sick.

Luke's lawyer team said that until now his client has not been able to undergo an examination. However, the KPK still requested that Lukas come to the KPK for questioning or be forcibly picked up from Papua to be brought to Jakarta.
