United Papuans support KPK in fighting corruption

The United Papuan People's Organization affirmed its support for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to eradicate corruption in Papua.

The spokesman for the United Papuan People, Ali Kabiay, in a written statement, in Jakarta, Saturday, stated that this support was one of ten points in the organization's statement regarding the alleged corruption case of Lukas Enembe.

He said the Papuan people support the state through the KPK to uncover all corruption cases in Papua Province including districts/cities without selective logging.

The Papuan people demand and urge the KPK to carry out the procedure for summoning and forcibly arresting the suspect Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe.

"We firmly reject the inauguration of the head of a large Papuan tribe to Lukas Enembe, because for us Lukas is the governor of Papua, not a chief of a large tribe," he asserted.

In addition, Papua is not an empty island inhabited by certain indigenous groups. Papua is divided into 7 customary territories and is inhabited by approximately 250 tribes spread throughout their respective customary territories.

They also vehemently denied the statement by legal adviser Lukas Enembe who said that indigenous Papuans had asked the KPK to examine Lukas in the open field in accordance with Papuan customs.

"For us Papuan people, this is a public deception, because this is not our custom and culture," he said.

According to him, the inauguration of Lukas Enembe as the head of a large Papuan tribe at his home is a scenario, to protect himself from corruption cases in the name of adat and the Papuan people as a shield.

Then, they also urged and demanded the Minister of Home Affairs to immediately deactivate the Governor of Papua and replace him with a temporary official, so that the process of government services and public services can run.

"Papua Province currently does not have a deputy governor," he also said.
