Diskop Supiori develops betel nut bath soap products

The Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperatives (Diskop UKM) of Supiori Regency, Papua will develop local betel and betel fruit products to be processed into bath soap.

"Diskop Supiori has explored the development of areca nut and betel nut to be processed into soap by collaborating with one of the universities in Makassar, South Sulawesi," said Head of the Supiori Workforce UKM Cooperative Office Edy Rahmat in Biak, Sunday.

He admitted that the two types of raw materials for soap from areca nut and betel nut still have great potential to be cultivated in Supiori Regency.

"I am optimistic that the development of soap production from areca nut and betel nut can increase the economic income of the families of indigenous Papuans," said Edy Rahmat.

Edy admitted from several plant experts that the potential benefits of betel nut can increase energy, maintain heart health, protect the liver from damage.

"Even betel nut has the potential to reduce the risk of cancer and potentially reduce the symptoms of schizophrenia (chronic brain disorder)," he said.

Behind the beneficial functions of betel nut, according to Edy Rahmat, betel nut can be used as a source of medicinal raw materials so that it can be processed into bath soap.

"There is an opportunity for SMEs in Supiori Regency if they can develop betel nut and betel nut to produce bath soap," hopes the Head of Diskop Edy Rahmat.
