Police investigate elements of treason related to the Head of the MRP in Switzerland for the Freedom of Papua

The police will monitor the activities of the chairman of the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) Timotius Murib after meeting with the United Nations (UN) in Geneva, Switzerland to fight for Papuan freedom. The police will investigate whether there are elements of treason committed by Timothy. "Are there elements of treason in Timotius Murib's activities, of course we will check and monitor each of his activities first," said Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri to journalists in Jayapura, Monday (14/11/2022).

Mathius admitted that he deeply regretted Timothy's words in the viral video regarding the freedom of Papua. He called Timothy's statement incorrect. "It is deeply regretted. If it is for me it is very unfortunate. Later journalists can also ask him directly why he said the wrong thing," he explained.

According to Mathius, the position currently held by Timothy comes from the Law. Now the police are monitoring the activities of Timotius Murib “He (Timotius Murib) exists because of the law, so I will ask. But I don't want to comment further. Of course, after this video circulates, it becomes the supervision of the police," he said.

Previously, a video by MRP chairman Timotius Murib claiming to have met the UN in Geneva, Switzerland to fight for Papuan freedom went viral on social media. Timothy's action immediately drew the spotlight.

In the circulating video, you can see the figure of Timothy recording a video with a background similar to the front page of the UN office in Geneva, Switzerland. He then explained the local time was showing at 3 pm. Timothy explained his agenda to the UN office in the framework of the struggle for Papuan freedom so that it would be the same as other nations. The figure of Timothy is seen wearing a suit. “Switzerland time at 3pm. Just finished from the UN High Commission," said Timothy as seen by detik.com in the video circulating. "And today we are struggling to get West Papua's freedom so that we can stand together with our fellow nations. God knows this agenda, keep fighting. Hallelujah, amen," he continued.

detikcom confirmed Timothy Murib regarding the circulating video. It's just that he has not provided further confirmation.
