Admitting that the Papua KKB problem cannot be solved carelessly, Mahfud MD: We are not afraid

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD alluded to the handling of the conflict in Papua in the 2022 Year End Notes press conference.

Mahfud MD said that conflict resolution in Papua, especially regarding the actions of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), cannot be done in an emotional and haphazard way.

"Let's not be too emotional, don't get too emotional. 'Sir, why don't you just clear it, it's easy', that's not how you manage the country. It's wrong to cut down, there are lots of problems like this," explained Mahfud, as quoted from Kompas TV broadcast, Thursday (15/12/2022).
 
He emphasized that the settlement of the KKB Papua conflict could not be reached by doing the same thing to the group.

The government did this not out of fear.

But the government upholds that every human life is very valuable.

"But let's take it slow, it's very important to save one human life," he said.

"We are braking because there is a dialogue suggestion, pause first, don't act. It's not a matter of whether we are afraid or anything, where are we afraid. But finishing it by remembering that every human life is valuable," concluded Mahfud.
 
As previously reported, the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) is suspected of being the mastermind behind a number of attacks that have taken place in Central Papua and Highlands Papua in the last two weeks.
 
A member of the Mobile Brigade Police in Lampung who was part of the Cartenz Damai Ops Task Force, Bripda Gilang Aji Prasetyo died in a shootout with the KKB in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains, Wednesday (30/11/2022).

On Monday (5/12/2022), the KKB attacked 6 motorcycle taxi drivers at a base in Mangabib Village, Oksebang District, Gunung Bintang Regency, Papua Mountains.

Three people died in the attack namely La Usu, La Aman, and La Ati.

According to the Gunung Bintang Police Chief AKBP Cahyo Sukarnito, this sadistic attack and murder was allegedly carried out by the KKB led by Nason Mimin.
 
On Tuesday (13/12/2022), an employee of Bank Papua Sinak Branch, Darius Yumame was shot dead by KKB at the Sinak Traditional Market, Gigobak Village, Sinak District, Puncak Regency, Central Papua, Tuesday (13/12/2022).

The perpetrators are suspected of being the KKB leader Kalenak Murib.

Most recently, the KKB was involved in a shootout for one hour with a group of police at KM1 Jalan Trans Yapen Saubaba - Angkaisera, North Yapen District, Yapen Islands Regency, Papua, Tuesday (13/12/2022).

The KKB also burned three cars, two of which belonged to the Yapen Police.
 
During the gun battle, a sensor operator named Yeferson Sayuri was killed by a shot.

The perpetrators are suspected to be the KKB led by Plato Merani.
