Asita Papua said the tourism sector could increase PAD

The Association of Indonesian Travel and Tourism Companies (Asita) of Papua Province said that the tourism sector has great potential in increasing local revenue (PAD) because many areas in Papua have attractiveness for tourists, especially foreign tourists.

Asita Papua chairman Iwanta Parangin-angin said in Jayapura on Monday that his party was still studying the potentials that could be used as tour packages so that foreign tourists could be interested in visiting Papua.

"Like the Papua Mountains region, our target is for the European market so that in promoting it can be right on target. For that, good cooperation is needed between Asita, the government and security forces," he said.

According to Iwanta, as at the Baliem festival in Wamena Regency, at that time his party brought 500 foreign tourists with an average length of stay of 4-5 days where each person used to spend Rp. 1 million per day, based on that calculation alone, you can see how much PAD who will enter the area.

"With the cooperation of all parties, tourism in Papua is growing so that infrastructure and security can be realized quickly," he said.

He explained that there were many obstacles that had to be discussed together with related agencies, in this case the Tourism Office, including regarding flights that had to be connected between one province and another.

"Like a direct flight from Jakarta to Nabire, then Nabire to Wamena without having to go through Jayapura again, so we can cut financing by 50 percent," said Iwanta.

He added that for this reason, his party hopes that in the future festivals can be held starting from the Main Province, South Papua, Central Papua and Highlands Papua so that more foreign tourists will be interested in the packages offered.
