KSP said there was no military operation in Papua

The government has spoken out regarding the increasing cases of acts of violence against civilians in Papua.

Main expert at the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Theofransus Litaay said the government always tries to find solutions to problems that occur.

He said, the government does not generalize all the problems, but identifies each problem on a case-by-case basis to find a solution.

“The government is paying great attention to this situation. Therefore the government considers that we need to look at it case by case. From case by case, efforts are made to better manage the situation, improvement. If there are security forces or state apparatus involved, an enforcement process will be carried out. So it's according to the standards," said Theofransus Litaay when contacted by KBR (13/12/2022).

No military operations

Theofransus Litaay also confirmed that currently there is no military operation in Papua. The placement of the TNI in Papua is only to strengthen territorial development.

According to him, a territorial structure that previously did not exist, is now starting to be developed in Papua so that the TNI carries out security, develops social communication with the Papuan people, as well as assists local government activities such as vaccinations and others.

He also ensured that the government always tries to carry out dialogue or social communication, take a culturally appropriate approach by involving community leaders, traditional leaders to religious leaders.

Theofransus Litaay also believes that Yudo Margono as the new TNI Commander can understand Papua well.

"I'm sure he really understands Papua. Because as a former commander of a naval base in Sorong, Papua, West Papua, he understands the situation on the ground very well. And his history in developing activities at that time was also very positive," he said.
